General FAQs  

 

When does the lottery start and end? 

The lottery will start at 8:00am (WST) on Wednesday 24 May 2017 and end at 11:59pm (WST) Wednesday 30 August 2017, unless sold out prior. 

 

How many prizes are there and what does the 1 in 10 chance to win apply to? 

There are a total of 3,501 prizes to be won excluding Early Bird and Bonus prizes. 

The 1 in 10 chance applies to the total prize pool, excluding the Early Bird and Bonus prizes. 

All tickets purchased during the Promotion Period are eligible to win one of 3,501 prizes. All 3,501 prize draws will be completed Wednesday 13 September 2017.  Assuming all 35,000 tickets are purchased, this gives ticket holders a 1 in 10 chance of winning. 

 

How many tickets will be sold?

Only 35,000 tickets will be available in the 2017 Variety of Choice Home Lottery. This means you have a 1 in 35,000 chance to win our $1 million dollar Plunkett Homes prize or $800,000 cash. This gives you the best chance of winning the Grand Prize compared to other similar WA lotteries. 

 

Can tickets win multiple prizes?

Early Bird and Bonus prize winning tickets are the only tickets eligible to win multiple prizes. These winning tickets are all eligible to win from the main prize pool, including the Grand Prize. 

For all other tickets within the main prize pool, after each prize is drawn, the winner is recorded and the ticket number is then excluded from any further prize draws, as per conditions set out by the Department of Racing, Gaming and Liquor. 

 

What is the total prize pool worth?

Total maximum retail value of the prize pool is $1996,104.00, depending upon winner prize selection.

 

How much are tickets? 

Tickets in the 2017 Variety of Choice Home Lottery are $100 each. 

 

How can I purchase a ticket?

Tickets can be purchased via the following: 

  • Online at www.varietylottery.com.au 
  • Over the phone on 1300 30 38 30
  • By post (call us to request an order form) 
  • In person at our office, 102 Burswood Road, Burswood 

 Ticket purchasers must be 18 years and older.

 

Can I pay via AMEX credit card?

Unfortunately we can only accept payment using Mastercard and VISA.

 

Can I pay via Paypal?

Yes you can purchase your lottery ticket using your PayPal account. 

 

Can people under 18 years old purchase a ticket?

No. All ticket holders must be 18 years or older. Tickets cannot be purchased under the name of, or for, a minor.

 

Where do funds raised go?

All net proceeds from the Variety of Choice Home Lottery benefit Variety - the Children’s Charity, supporting Western Australian children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs. By purchasing a ticket in the Variety of Choice Home Lottery, you will help WA kids in need to overcome the obstacles they face, providing much needed mobility, health, education and recreation equipment and programs, right around the state. Are tickets tax deductible? 

Lottery ticket purchases are not classified as donations and are therefore are not tax deductible. 

 

Are the prizes in the Variety of Choice Home Lottery donated?

Variety - the Children’s Charity and our volunteer lottery committee negotiate prices with each of the prize suppliers. Many of these partners are long standing Variety sponsors and supporters, who have offered generous discounts. If your business would like to donate a prize or you are interested in corporate support of Variety - the Children’s Charity, please call us on 9355 3655.

 

I purchased my ticket but haven’t received it yet, what do I do?

Tickets will be available to download immediately after you purchase online, and a download link will also be emailed to you. If you do not have an email address, your ticket will be posted to you. 

If you provided an email address, please make sure you check your junk and spam mail if you haven't received your ticket download link within 72 hours of purchase. Please note, if there is a high volume of traffic on the website, your email confirmation may take longer than anticipated, please allow time.

I live interstate. Can I still buy a ticket? 

Entry is open to all residents, Australia-wide.  Prizes may be couriered / posted at the winner’s request if unable to be collected, however this will be at the winner’s own cost.

 

How do I know my credit card and personal details are secure?

All personal details collected for the Variety of Choice Home Lottery are held and used in strict accordance with our Privacy Policy which can be viewed by clicking here. 

All credit card details and transactions are processed using a bank approved, secure payment gateway. No credit card numbers are stored.    

 

Who conducts the Variety of Choice Home Lottery?

The Variety of Choice Home Lottery is operated by Variety – the Children’s Charity of WA. 

 

Early Bird and Bonus Prize FAQs 

 

What is the Early Bird prize? 

The Early Bird Prize is a choice of either $50,000 cash or an Infiniti Q50 GT Auto Sedan, from Barbagallo, which will be issued as a gift voucher to allow the winner to choose from standard features. The early bird prize winner will be given 48 hours to make their decision.

 

When does the Early Bird end?

Only tickets purchased before 11:59pm (WST) Monday 19 June 2017 are eligible for the Early Bird Prize draw. 

 

When will the early bird prize be drawn?

 

The Early Bird Prize draw will be conducted at 10:00am (WST) on Wednesday 21 June 2017.  The winning ticket for the Early Bird Prize will be re-entered and is eligible to win the Bonus Prizes as well as one of the remaining 3,503 prizes from the main prize draw.

 

What is the First Bonus Prize? 

The First Bonus Prize is a choice of either $20,000 cash or an RAC Travel 15 night European cruise package from Amsterdam to Budapest, which can be substituted for an RAC Travel voucher equal to the specified value of the travel package. The First Bonus Prize winner will be given 48 hours to make their decision.

 

What is the Second Bonus Prize? 

The Second Bonus Prize is a choice of either $20,000 cash or Fiat 500 Auto from Barbagallo, which will be issued as a gift voucher to allow the winner to choose from standard features. The Second Bonus Prize winner will be given 48 hours to make their decision.

 

When does the First Bonus Prize end?

Only tickets purchased before 11:59pm (WST) Monday 17 July 2017 are eligible for the First Bonus Prize draw.  This includes ticket holders who purchased during the Early Bird period.  

 

When will the First Bonus Prize be drawn?

The First Bonus Prize draw will be conducted at 10:00am (WST) on Wednesday 19 July 2017.  The winning ticket for the First Bonus Prize will be re-entered and is eligible to win the Second Bonus Prize as well as one of the remaining 3,502 prizes from the main prize draw.  

 

When does the Second Bonus Prize end?

Only tickets purchased before 11:59pm (WST) Monday 7 August 2017 are eligible for the Second Bonus Prize draw. This includes ticket holders who purchased during the Early Bird and First Bonus Prize period.  

 

When will the Second Bonus Prize be drawn?

The Second Bonus Prize draw will be conducted at 10:00am (WST) on Wednesday 9 August 2017.  The winning ticket for the Second Bonus Prize will be re-entered and is eligible to win one of the remaining 3,501 prizes from the main prize draw.

 

If I purchase my ticket for the Early Bird or Bonus Prizes, do I need to register again?

If you purchase your ticket within the Early Bird Period, you don’t have to register or purchase again. Being an early bird simply means that you’ve bought your ticket before midnight on 19 June 2017, which makes you eligible for additional prizes as well as the main lottery draw. When are Early Bird, First Bonus and Second Bonus prizes received?

If the winners of the Early Bird, First Bonus and Second Bonus prizes opt to take the designated cash amounts, Variety - the Children’s Charity will work with prize winners to issue a cheque or EFT of the cash prizes within 7 business days of respective draw dates. If the winners of such prizes choose to take the car(s) or holiday, a voucher will be issued within 7 business days of respective draw dates. Delivery times on motor vehicles will vary subject to customisation options selected by the winner.

 

Prize Draw 

 

How are the prizes drawn?

All prizes will be drawn and issued in order of value, from highest value to lowest. 

Winners will selected at random using an approved computer system, in the presence of staff from the Department of Racing, Gaming and Liquor and Butler Settineri Auditors. 

All prize winners will receive official notification via post. 

 

When will the main prize pool be drawn?

All 3,501 prize draws in the main prize pool will be conducted from 10:00am Wednesday 13 September 2017, unless the lottery is sold out early. 

In this case, the main prize/s draw will be brought forward from 13 September and conducted on either:

  1. The same date as the Early Bird Prize draw which is 21 June 2017 in the event of the lottery being fully subscribed before Early Bird Draw deadline of midnight 19 June 2017, or
  2. The same date as Bonus Draw 1 which is 19 July 2017 in the event of the lottery being fully subscribed before the Bonus Draw 1 deadline of midnight 17 July 2017, or
  3. The same date as Bonus Draw 2 which is 9 August 2017 in the event of the lottery being fully subscribed before the Bonus Draw 2 deadline of 7 August 2017.

 

What happens if I win the Grand Prize?

The winner of the Grand Prize will have the option to accept a credit voucher with Plunkett Homes (1903) Pty Ltd (ABN 98 009 250 373) in the sum of $1,000,000 OR $800,000 in cash.

How are holiday prizes issued? 

The winners of holiday prizes may redeem holiday package as advertised, or they may opt to receive a RAC Travel gift voucher to the same value as the holiday package. Vouchers must be used in a single transaction and unused balances cannot be redeemed for cash. Vouchers are valid until 13 September 2018. 

 

Where will the Prize Draw take place?

All prize draws will be conducted at Butler Settineri Auditors at Unit 16, First Floor, Spectrum Offices, 100 Railway Road, Subiaco WA 6008. The draw will be recorded.    

 

How will winners be notified? 

All prize winners will be notified in writing shortly after the prize draws have been completed. 

Ticket holders will be able to check their ticket against a winners database at www.varietylottery.com.au five business days after the date of the draw, or earlier.

 

How will I receive my prize?

The Grand Prize will be awarded as a credit voucher or cash. 

 Winners are responsible for making arrangements to claim their prize. Prizes may be couriered / posted at the winner’s request if unable to be collected, however this will be at the winner’s own cost.  Vehicle prize winners must collect their vehicle voucher in person.   

 

Can I remain anonymous if I win the Grand Prize? 

As part of our Terms & Conditions, the first and second name of the Grand Prize winner will be announced and may be used for promotional purposes.

 

The Plunkett Home Prize specifics 

 

Who is the home builder for the Grand Prize?

Plunkett Homes is the builder for the Variety of Choice Million Dollar Home Lottery. 

Plunkett Homes was the first major builder from Perth to establish themselves in the South-West in 1981. Plunkett South-West have built homes from Waroona in the north, to Williams in the east and Augusta in the south. Today, Plunkett is still an industry leader, their designs are innovative and award winning and their staff are committed to helping customers achieve their lifestyle dreams. 

 

Are there terms and conditions on the $1 million Plunkett Homes prize? 

If selected, up to 40% of the credit voucher amount may be used by the winner to acquire land in Western Australia, with the balance to be used for the purpose of building one or more residential dwellings in Western Australia.  Unused balances cannot be redeemed for cash.  Building contracts with Plunkett must be entered into within 1 year of the issue of the credit voucher.  Plunkett Homes encourages the winner to build the best and most valuable home or investment(s) possible and will help the winner to get the most out of the credit voucher.

Are additional donations to Variety tax deductible? 

Yes, any donation amount of $2 or more is tax deductible.  Upon receipt of a tax donation we will post you a tax receipt for safekeeping.

Established in 1980, Variety - the Children’s Charity of WA empowers Western Australian children who are sick, disadvantaged or who have special needs, to live, laugh and learn. 

 

How does Variety - the Children’s Charity help? 

Variety often “fills the gaps” that other organisations cannot, providing practical and tangible assistance to individuals, families, schools and other children’s organisations who have nowhere else to turn. By supporting children and families through vital equipment, programs and experiences, Variety helps children in need to overcome the obstacles they face and helps kids, be kids.

Variety – the Children's Charity of WA is all about empowering WA kids who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs to live, laugh and learn.

By providing vital and practical equipment, programs and experiences, we help children in need overcome the obstacles they face to live life to the fullest and help ‘kids be kids’. Our work allows children to gain mobility and freedom, to get out and about in the community, increase self-esteem and achieve independence. 

This can range from an iPad and specialist ‘apps’ to help children living with Autism, to vehicle modifications for children with physical disability to travel safely in the family car, modified bicycles, camps, wheelchairs and more.
